Finding our AirBnB in the outskirts of Vienna ended up taking the better part of the day. Bikes are "ausgenomen" from most roads (which we extrapolate to mean exempt - my German phrase book is useless. It has stupid words like eyebrow pencil, but no road sign words.)
But it was great fun discovering many little vineyard neighborhoods and seeing non-touristy outlying towns.
Duck ambassadors at the last campground. Extremely tame and chatty.
The AirBnB folks were terrific. We had the third floor to ourselves, got to do laundry and take a bath, then they served us champagne and pasta carbonara! Heaven! And all this for a tiny fraction of what it costs to stay downtown.
Having a Viennese cafe breakfast (hobbit 2nd breakfast for us) while planning our day. Austrian butter is sooo yummy.
Climbed 323 steps up the cathedral tower and nearly jumped out of my skin because scores of school children were shrieking in the narrow space and there was no escaping the din.
Scott spotted this open Greek Orthodox Church. We both loved it because it was so different than all the cathedrals. I love the graphic designs on the left. Reminds me of Kaffe Fasser sweaters my Mom has knitted.
Of course we ate our way through the city following the guide book recommendations. This sausage guy impales baguettes, stuffs mustard in the hole, them shoves the kielbasa-sized sausage in, turning out one every 5 seconds.
Art students sketching. My only regret is not seeing enough art here. This is the home of Klimt (yellow bent over kissing painting), Durer (cranky hare painting), and many other famous painters. It was also he home of Victor Frankl, who as I said, I've been reading a bit of.
"Man does not simply exist but always decides what his existence will be, what he will become the next moment. By the same token, every human being has the freedom to change at any instant."
Meeting Tim and Cassie at high noon under the Pratersbrucke Bridge today. Should hit Slovakia today or tomorrow.
