San Salvador and Sunday Market

The folks from the mountain villages come down to Pisac to buy necessities and sell produce on Sunday.
We bought homemade cheese with oregano in it, prickly pear cactus, chirrimoya (my favorite), papaya, and lots of other tasty treats. Sooo cheap!
Bought a big ladle from this woman, partly because she was so friendly.
Local honey, 60 cents.
A parade of boys blowing concha shell horns.
A pepper filled with veges for 50 cents - super yummy!
Took an afternoon excursion to el señor de huaca Iglesias up in the hills of San Salvador town. The locals tell us this church is next most important church outside of Rome and that many miracles have happened here. I got the stink eye in the minibus (combi) when I answered that I am not  "catolico"
People from all over the area bring their new cars to this church to get a special blessing for safety. They will need it - crazy drivers here!
Candles melted together in the chapel.
Writing on the chapel walls.
The church was built in 1675.
My dog of the day recipient for meat scraps.
 Jagged mountains above the church.

Just so we don't give the impression every day is bliss, we did have a snafu where a drugstore owner tried to pretend we gave him a 50 instead of a hundred soles bill. It was an awkward and unsettling incident that took a few hours to shake off. It can be tiring to be ever vigilant and paying attention, and also be a good embassador and not be an annoying tourist. We also had such a tasty dinner tonight (trout again - so good!) but the proprietor had a horrendous Vin Diesel movie on full blast so that we ended up eating as fast as we could so we could get out of there. Peru can be very noisy in the towns and although we feel perfectly safe, I think we will probably need to be on our toes when we go to Cusco tomorrow.

Nepal has been on our minds so much. The family we stayed with there is OK but we heard that some others in Okrani village were killed. So incredibly sad.
