Hiking snacks! The granola has quinoa, chestnuts, figs, orange, and a vague anise flavor. So different. Local olives in a bag - like Spain! The big fried beans really hit the spot in the trail today.
Set out first thing this morning up the Inca trails to the Pisac Ruins, elevation about 3400 meters. 8 hours of hiking.
gardens at home!
Stone stairways are everywhere in the hills, with gutters on the side. I kept trying to fathom how many people hours were involved in construction of these places.
3500 Inca graves in the hillside, all desecrated long ago, but we did spot skulls in some of the holes with the binoculars.
We've seen a lot of selfie sticks around. Scott fashioned some sort of Velcro gizmo for my hiking pole but we had limited success getting.a good shot.
This man tried to sell me some tchotchkes but after a lovely Spanish chat, he went and picked me some herbs for helping with seroche (altitude sickness) and tummy aches. I definitely felt a little headache and shortness of breath at the top. Tummy is happy so far though!
We had our first disappointing meal tonight - the guidebook mislead us. Touristy and expensive and tiny portions. Locals were lined up for this street food well away from the plaza. $1.30 for a heaping plate of pasta, fried rice, fresh French fries and fried chicken. That's why I'm talking about. Such a great day!
