Softball Tournament

Cheering on the team from first base (notice the "safety base" - which still didn't prevent some pretty significant injuries on the other teams)
Audrey hitting for the Shuttles team!

Coongratulating the VMF on their win.

Shuttles team! We had our doubts how well we would do because all the other teams practiced all week and weren't really co-ed (they only had one woman on each of the other teams).

This group ran through toward the end of the tournament. You never know what's going to happen in McMurdo.

Jackie organized the whole tournament. His uncle played here back in the 50's. This guy is from Billerica, MA and has a very strong accent. Reminded me of living in MA in the 80's... Even though everyone had a wonderful afternoon it probably won't happen again next year or maybe ever again because 5 people ended up getting hurt (hamstring, broken collar bone, back problems, etc.) and are going to be medevacked (sp?).

Someone took some great action shots and put them on the shared drive. It was dusty out there, but super warm. We ate hot dogs, drank beer, and trashed-talked - what could be better?

I was able to hit several grounders, but I totally miscalculated a fly ball in the outfield. We ended up losing 14-13, but it was a blast anyway.

I hit only grounders but hey, I didn't strike out once!

Jen,
What happened to the snow? Looks like global warming hit your village and spring fever took hold with a rather frisky ball game. You're having entirely too much fun for someone who is supposed to be working.
Hey, let's start a Skua when you get back to the Bitterroot. They've have one in Telluride for years. Great idea.
