This blog entry is just a collection of some photos taken here and there around McMurdo. Well, actually some of them were taken quite a distance from the station--like this one of an ice berg trapped in sea ice near the Barne Glacier. By the way, you can click on any of these photos to view a larger image.
And this shot of the face of the Barne Glacier. It may not look very big, but it literally towered over our heads!
Just another shot of the ice berg. You might notice a small flag on top. The Kiwis put it there to mark the summit of the berg for their ice climbing teams.

Ob Hill again this time with McMurdo Station below. Lovely little town, eh? Looks a bit like we're mining for precious gems down there, does it not?
Castle Rock with Erebus shrouded in clouds. Just like Denali, it only shows its full face every now and then.
The two "golf balls" above McMurdo Station. Actually, they are special antenna installations used to peer into outer space. I wonder what they're listening to?
Me in front of the face of the Barne Glacier. I may look all warm and toasty, but in reality it was very wind and cold. I can only guess what the windchill was on the many-mile snowmobile ride back to the station!
Cornice overhanging the entrance to the ice caves. Soon this will all be gone--swallowed by the sea as the sound is freed of ice.
The other side of the ice cave opening. The light inside really is this blue!
Our champion snowmobile team--who will also be going to AGAP South camp.
All dressed up and miles to go! Of course, one of the snowmobiles broke down on the way back, but that is another story...

Wow! You might convert me. I'm one of those people who tends to hate snowmobiles. They're noisy and stinky. They destroy the peace when I'm swishing across snow on my skiis and they scare the animals away in Yellowstone. But, in Anarctica..they work.

Stinkin cool stuff. As the resident rocket scientist I can confidently point out that those two large balls are pointed at Uranus.
