Bus ride to Puno

Some great murals in Cusco
On the all-day bus ride yesterday we stopped at 6 places along the way. This is a replica Inca suspension bridge (the one Scott is on).
Part of a huge Inca Temple
Llama herd
I loved the high plains. Cool, desolate, relatively free of trash, and the little towns seemed better cared for.
Funny that we always like the places most like Montana. Hmmm.
I like these Bulls they place on roofs and near churches. Made of clay, many of them have friendly or goofy expressions.
The last bit of beauty before coming into two really ugly cities: Juliasca and Puno. Both have some of that post-apocalyptic feel that the outskirts on Kathmandu had. Last night we had the hardest time finding a spot to move forward on the sidewalks on our way to get something to eat and had to shadow locals to dart across traffic. Non-stop blaring horns. Roads in disrepair. Bright spots: dirt cheap huge bowl of chicken noodle soup for dinner at a non-touristic restaurant, nice proprietor of this hotel who personally came to he bus station to pick is us, fresh crusty bread from a street vendor for 12 cents and apple tarts from the panaderia for 40 cents each, good wifi in our very basic room but no towels,
And a warm bed loaded with super heavy alpaca blankets (it's cold here!)

Off to Chivay, then Cabanaconde (2 more long bus rides today).
